About

From online radio to mental health…

History

In 2007, Taylor University partnered in creating an online radio station known as Remedy.fm. A positive music station for a faith-based generation. The chat center was available for song requests and start conversations where kids could open up about their secret struggles.

In 2008, Remedy.fm split from Taylor and become their own 501C3 not for profit organization. Their office was located downtown, hosting a 24/7 web-based radio station. On-air personalities worked around the clock while chatting with teens and young adults from Fort Wayne and around the nation.

A big change came in the summer of 2011 when the decision was made to leave online radio behind and focus more on the chat center and online resources for teens and young adults. Remedy.fm became RemedyLIVE. While Remedy continued to stream music (without the radio hosts and MC’s), a new direction took form. The filming studios were immediately put to use as Remedy began producing online shows. As technology and the world of mental health has changed, so has RemedyLIVE. Today, Remedy serves all people through its 24/7 chat center as well as interactive programs built for schools, businesses, organizations, parents, and churches.

Mission Statement

RemedyLIVE engages people in meaningful conversations, through technology, as a next step towards Christ.

Chat with us ▸

meaningful conversation is…candid, confessional, anonymous, honest, non-judgmental, safe, real, empathetic, trust worthy, interactive, and immediate.

next step towards Christ is…a suicide prevented, a request for forgiveness, an act of forgiving, a decision to stop destructive behavior, seeking a counselor, a decision to investigate Christ, a life on life relationship.

Statement of Faith

RemedyLIVE has no denominational affiliation or complex theological covenant, except the basic tenant that we believe in the following:

  1. There is one Creator God who exists in three persons: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  2. Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, is the only Son of God and has died on the cross to provide atonement for all mankind through personal relationship with Him. Living as He lived must be the goal for anyone who calls himself or herself a Christ-follower.

  3. The Holy Bible is the Word of God, inerrant in it’s entirety, and is the foundation for living one’s life on purpose and not by accident. It is alive and active, and if applied, can transform anyone who’s willing.

  4. The church has no boundaries and is made up of all those who follow Jesus Christ, no matter race, age, or gender, and is the best way to celebrate community.

  5. Prayer is the greatest personal and corporate way a person can be a part of helping others. Through prayer, we lift up the needs of others and seek God on what He desires for us to do next.

Our Statement of Faith

Society today is godless. Religion is looked at as divisive and often affiliated with terrorism and hate. If it’s tolerated at all it’s generally limited to recreational religion, something that’s kept personal and practiced at a church or faith gathering – but not something that should intersect with the way one exists amidst others in society. This includes the tradition of the Christian faith, often looked at as a foundational belief system for the United States, but now observed in distain, as a sub-group of society that is stereotyped more for what Christians are against then what they are for. The separation of church and state is causing each passing generation to become more and more convinced that there is no God and that organized faith, especially Christianity, is like participating in a fairy tale, meant to make us feel better but with no foundational evidence or eternal difference. This provides us at RemedyLIVE with great opportunities but also real challenges. How do we, as a faith based organization, make a Kingdom difference in a world that is saturated with proclamation ministries that have been muted by a majority of society? How can we be different?

To answer that question we must first recognize that God has called us at RemedyLIVE to use a ministry wineskin that was hardly ever used for spiritual dialogue in the 20th Century – digital chat. This platform is generally anonymous, faceless, safe, and transparent. It allows free dialogue, back and forth, and if done in love and compassion, can be a great way to build a bridge of trust to a spiritual dialogue. In order to do that the Christian in the chat must understand that the person they’re chatting with has value and deserves to be asked about their story, their struggle, and their understanding of self in the context of their one and only life. This allows the Christian to truly hear from the person’s heart and with each keystroke back and forth, a brick in the bridge of trust is built. This is not so different from some evangelism training that we’ve seen over the past 30 years, but a significant difference lies in the ability for the Christian to trust God for the events during and after the conversation- that the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts the soul, and that the great commandment in scripture must be lived out digitally during the conversation back and forth – to love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).

Love God

Loving God means to keep His commands (John 14:15) and saturate ourselves in the freedom Jesus paid for on the cross rather than be enslaved by the world empty opinions (Galatians 5:1). God is calling us to be holy, as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16) and is calling us to live in relationship with Him and His Word in obedience (2 Tim 3:16) so that it can train us to live our lives the best way possible for God’s glory and those around us.

Love Others

While we live different than the world (1 Thes 5:22) we also see Jesus actively pursuing the lost of the world in Matthew 9 while commissioned us to do the same- “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. (Matthew 9:12,13)” At RemedyLIVE we believe that love is best extended when one values all people and cares about them enough to spend time with them and hear their story amidst struggle. Isaiah 61:1 says “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” This can give us confidence that God’s spirit is upon us to chat with people who come to us through the technology they trust and we use. They confess their struggle and hopelessness (James 5:16) and as we pray God unleashes His power to convict (John 16:8) so we have the privilege to love them through providing a Biblical worldview on their situation, even without using direct references to chapter and verse.  Hebrews 4 says “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” We believe that God is active amidst the people that come to RemedyLIVE regardless of their spiritual temperature since we are 1)praying while we minister 2)using a Biblical worldview as we share 3)and loving the person where they’re at instead of casting judgement on their life situation. Once that bridge of trust is built we will have the privilege to share with them that a relationship with Jesus is possible and would change everything for their future earthly and eternal life.

This approach is similar to what we see from Paul in Acts 17:16-34. As he approached the people of Athens we observed the state of the culture their and the lies that they believed that formed their worldview. Rather than come with a pre-packaged presentation of the Gospel Paul considered the language of the local people and how they “reasoned”. By doing so he was able to present a Biblical worldview that engaged the idolatrous people in a conversation that concluded with an invitation for Paul to be heard again! (Acts 17:32).

At RemedyLIVE we wish to have this same type of influence on our clients. We want them to think different about themselves, their situation, and their future by taking this unique approach to earn their trust and share Biblical truth- without referring to the chapter and verse of a Bible text that could alienate them from being open to share.

Rather than be about proclamation, RemedyLIVE is about listening. Our clients come to us through search engines, events we partner with, and word of mouth. A majority of our clients are in deep pain and find themselves in a struggle where they are searching and open to a remedy to their problem. We don’t approach our clients, they come to us – and our agenda is not to argue with them but rather to influence them into seeing their one and only life in the context of a worldview that is ultimately futile without the hope that Jesus brings. Ironically, society provides multiple examples of what hopelessness and escapism looks like so a conversation or series of conversations often provides many opportunities to learn about the client and through the right questions.
